EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A man was found shot to death in a car Thursday evening in a parking lot in Evergreen Park, police said in a news release.

Evergreen Park police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Walgreens parking lot at 8700 S. Kedzie Ave. When police arrived at the scene, they were told that the man was inside a vehicle. The incident was reported at 6:45 p.m.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses said three male blacks were seen running from the area. Sources say the man may have been the target of an attempted robbery.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force has been activated and they are assisting the Evergreen Park Police Department.

A helicopter and police K-9s were brought out to assist in the search. The ice rink at Yukich Field was also evacuated Thursday evening, according to scanner traffic.

Police are not releasing the man’s identify pending notification of his family.
